SEO Experts will Hate You – Here Are The Tricks
If you want to increase your search ranking and drive more organic traffic to your website, here are 10 of the most important search engine optimization tips that you should start implementing today:
Remove the things that are slowing down your site
Page speed is considered one of the most important things in SEO. Data from StrangeLoop shows that a one-second delay in the page loading time can yield up to 7% loss in conversions.
Potential buyers consider a slow site as an untrustworthy site. Page speed is a critical factor for both users and search engines. eConsultancy has published statistical research that shows that 40% of users abandon a site that takes more than 3 seconds to load.
For example: check out Pingdom – type your website url and check what it tells you. Make sure you click on the explanations if you are not sure what they mean, and then you start fixing them errors.
Consider linking other website pages with relevant content
Most people avoid linking other websites in their content because it takes people of their page.
But, not many of them know that this is a fundamental part of SEO strategy. Also, keep in mind that link building is more about quality than about quantity.
For example, we will also share a blog Mobidea wrote about SEO for Affiliate Marketing because we love it. Sharing is caring.
Don’t put search engines in the center of your attention
Old methods of SEO were based on just piling on relevant keywords, without putting in much effort to make it understandable to the human reader.
Write your content primarily for the user, not for the search engines. No one likes to read repetitive keywords in meta titles and meta descriptions. Don’t let stuffing kill your SEO. Many people see this as a shortcut, but on the long run, not doing any good.
What do we mean by keyword stuffing?
- Repetitive words or phrases which are unnecessary
- insert literal blocks of words or phrases
- Using misleading keywords which do not have anything to do with the content
- Adding words with no context
Encourage other high-quality websites to link to your pages
When you invest time and effort into creating high quality content and linking to other relevant pages, you will find that more people will link to you naturally.
As we mentioned before, sharing is caring. By creating valuable content and taking your time to do that you will encourage others to share your wise words (hehe).
Depending on your business you may offer other things in return, such as, giving exclusive offers or coupons to your visitors. The other thing you can do is engage your readers, ask them questions or let them share their opinion. Make your content sharable and easy to share.
Track web analytics stats from the start
It is very important to set up a software that will track if your search engine optimizations tactics are working or not.
Web analytics software programs such as Google Analytics and Google Search Console are one of the best tools to use for tracking your success, and they’re free which is awesome.
Also, tools like Crazy Egg, for example, will track and show you where your site visitors are clicking on your page, which could be used in your advantage for further website optimization.
Think of unique and relevant page meta descriptions
Realistically, the first thing page visitors notice is the actual headline and meta description of the page, which makes them some of the most important SEO factors.
As already mentioned, it is important to write relevant descriptions that are different for all pages. Google doesn’t like the duplicate content, so the same meta descriptions for a page about plumbing services and SEO courses won’t work in your favor in the long run.
It is similar to Keyword stuffing, you just don’t want that stuff.
Pay attention to the URL-s
Make sure that your pages URL is readable as well. Long URLs with irrelevant numbers and excessive dashes won’t be readable by users and search engines.
Some SEO experts claim that the best practise is to keep the links short, containing 2-4 words
Here is an example of a good URL:
And here is an example of not so readable URL:
Use Social Media as a tool
Although Google hasn’t added social media signals into their ranking algorithm factors, it seems like it does have some effect on ranking.
There are several studies that have proven that shares, likes and pins on social media have affected the search engine ranking of a page.
So, some of the tips for increasing ranking through social media are:
- Encourage people to share your content
- Host contests and giveaways to get more shares
- Ad visible share buttons to your posts
- And of course, create useful content that will be interesting for users to share
Use Keywords in your images
A very important advice is to use keywords in your image names and descriptions. This does not mean that you should stuff them with keywords, because you may get penalized by Google for this kind of behavior.
Before you start checking this out: alt descriptions and alt tags is the text that appears in the place of an image. This is what helps screen-reading tools understand the image since they can’t really see right? This allows search engines to crawl better and rank your website.
Example of good and bad alt text
Bad: “man hitting a ball at a baseball field”
Good: “David Ortiz of the Boston Red Sox batting from home plate at Fenway Park”
Thank you Hubspot for this lovely example
Create unique and genuinely interesting content for your site visitors
One of the most important search engine optimization tips is to create quality content. This will have a positive effect on your freshness score, that increases when you regularly post good content.
You can go bold with the headlines like we did it here, but try not to be too clickbaity.
- Write your material using simple words and a simple tone, no one likes reading things which hurt their brain
- Avoid repetition of content and make sure you don’t delay with saying nothing in 2 paragraphs
- Focus on benefits and the value which the user will get from your content.
That is it for now. We will update this blog as soon as we get more interesting news 🙂
